Pacific Northwest roadtrip – Mt. Hood

From Bend we had a short drive to our campsite at Frog Lake Campground near Mt Hood.  The campground was nice and quiet when we arrived so we pulled in to have lunch before driving up to Timberline Lodge to scout out some hiking options. We had to look twice when we arrived at Timberline Lodge as there were tons of kids with skis!  Summer skiing! We went into the lodge and got a hiking suggestion from the Ranger on staff.  The 6 mile hike from 5,400 to 6,100 feet elevation that hooked us up with the Pacific Crest Trail had amazing scenery and gave us the bug for a possible future through hike of the PCT. Since we were only at Frog Lake for one night we decided to try sleeping in the back of the SUV to reduce set up and take down time before heading to Mt Rainer the next day.  It was nice and cozy for me but a little to short length wise for Matt.
