From Olympic National Park we took the Coho ferry (mix it up from the road trip) from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria, Canada B.C. It was the first time we had been to British Columbia and the first time for me for driving a vehicle onto a ferry! Matt experienced this last summer going to Alaska with his motorcycle but he wasn’t sure how the car process was going to go but it was smooth sailing (no pun intended!). Really fun way to travel and see new things. The captain pointed out two hump back whales in the distance which was really neat as we haven’t seen whales since our honeymoon in Cape Cod 15 years ago! We were treated to a cycling tour around Victoria from our friend Alison. She made the trip from her home in Duncan to show us around the area plus treated us to tasty vegan food at the Green Cuisine!
Jason and Alison opened up their home to us in Duncan. Their house is great and to top it off I feel in love with their dog Tiki! We were so thankful for a little respite from camping and a chance to wash some clothes. Even better was visiting with them and getting a swim session in before Alison had to go to work and hike/jog fix with amazing views from Jason as he took half day off work to hang with us.
After our swim, Jason took us to the Duncan Garage. We ended up having breakfast, lunch and the following day picked up treats for our trip back to the states! Think we liked it! We also scored a 3fer deal on Canadian Old Dutch chips which were staples growing up in North Dakota but they have a special Ketchup chip flavor (tastes more like sun dried tomatoes)!
We took the Sidney, B.C. to Anacortes, WA ferry back to the states. No whale sightings this time but spectacular island and volcano views on another blue bird day!
